He is described as a patient, former blacksmith (pauper), and his age is given as 69 and his place of birth Landulph. Note that this age corresponds more closely to his baptism date than former censuses where the age of the James Deacon listed appears to relate to a birth date around 1815.
A report in the West Briton of 4 March 1853 says that JAMES DEACON, 40, was found Guilty of stealing, at Landulph, on the 9th of January, a goose, the property of Benjamin SNELL
