Norman Snell has a letter written by Edmund to his grandmother Mary Snell in 1850, a year before Edmund died. The letter is written in exquisite handwriting, and is inscribed by Mary Snell "My dear Grandson Edmund, letters which I have greatly prized."
The text of the letter reads: "Cardigan, 16 October1850. My dear Grandmama, You have been kind enough to tell Mama more than once that you would be pleased if I wrote you again and as Papa is writing Uncle today she says that I had better write a few lines to send at the same time. I am glad that you are so much better than you were. I hope Cousin Joe is very well. I should like to be there with him some times but it is too far off. Perhaps I may come over with Papa next summer. I hope all my cousins are well and my dear Uncles and Aunts. I am afraid you will think I do not improve at all in my writing for I very seldom write in a copy book at school but write my latin exerises on a piece of paper at home in the evenings. I have also just begun to learn Greek. I attend Sunday School every Sunday as a teacher and have never missed once since I first began. My parents, Grandmama Simpson, Brothers and Sisters are all very well and send their love to you. Please give my love to my Cousins at Ashton and also to Cousin Celia. Please tell Cousin Joe I have two Rabbits and if he lived nearer he should have some of their young ones. I remain, My dear Grandma, Your affectionate Grandson Edmund Snell . Jessie is learning to wrire and will be able to send you a letter soon.
